Ford had never been one for symbols of things. Things were what they were, regardless of names and symbols or signs.

He loved Darcy, and he could no longer picture life without her. He certainly didn't want to. But when he had asked her to marry him, he hadn't asked because he himself wanted to get married. He honestly didn't care one way or the other, and he sure as hell didn't need some piece of paper or ceremony to tell him that he loved her. But, she did want to get married.

She also wanted wedding rings, for the both of them. Again he didn't really care. He didn't need a ring on his finger to be married. What was a wedding ring, anyway? A signal to others that one was married? A signal of "I'm claimed already." He didn't need it.

But just as he didn't need to get married or wear a wedding band he still would. Because she wanted that, and he didn't mind it. Hardly a price at all to pay for making her happy.

So they had taken one of their lazy days to go shopping. For rings. "So what kind of ring do you want?" He asked where they were walking down the street hand in hand. Further down that street were a jewelry store that he hoped would have something that would strike her fancy.

Well, then they would be shopping for something nice for their weddign. Huh, that seemed really surreal to think about that and yet here she was standing in the middle of a jewelry store. Darcy smiled up at him, releasing his hand and somehow able to navigate straight to the wedding and engagement rings. She scanned over the diamonds under the lit glass, making mental notes of what she liked and what she didn't.

"Ooh, that," she pointed to one that had three princess cut diamonds set together and a few smaller. It wasn't huge, which she prefered, but it definitely knew how to sparkle. They were approached quickly by one of the employees who asked which one and he pulled it out from the drawer to show her. Darcy immediately was examining it and then slipping it on.

"Engagement ring?" the tubby salesman asked.

"Wedding ring. I'm not bothering getting both. Just one," she explained.

"I should get a bigger diamond to punish you," she teased, bumping her hip against him. She didn't mean it. She knew how pointless it was to get both, because really, she only needed one ring and he didn't need to spend a bunch. Darcy set the ring down and gave it back to the salesman and smile, "It's going to be that one," she clarified and he carried it with him.

"The men's bands are over here," he directed them to another counter with more rings, some a little more elaborate than others and this time Darcy stood back and waited to see what her boyfriend--fiance?--would pick out.

Darcy is standing close by and watching. She had no opinion one way or another about what kind of band he picked out. She was picking her own and he could pick his own so that they knew they liked whatever it was they got. It was practical that way. Besides, she was quietly very proud of him for picking out something that would definitely be noticeable on his hand. Eh, she had to have some visual claim on him, right?

"I like it," she replied, leaning her cheek against his shoulder.

Darcy smiled brightly the entire time and when the salemans asked his next question, she looked up at Ford and looked thoughtful. If they were to engrave something in them, what would it be? It should be the same in both. Darcy looped her arm through his and and kept looking at him to see if he had an idea.

"If we do, I think it should be the same in both. Or, simply each other's names," she said, shrugging, "What do you think?"

"We could make an appointment with the courthouse, then we'll know," she said, but he was right, it wasn't like this was an important aspect of it, anyway. She turned to the salesman and asked if we could call him later and give him a date to add and he agreed. If they didn't get a date for the courthouse, they could always put it off until they got back. "That work?" she turned back to Ford.

They placed the order and promised to call later about the engraving. That was simple enough. It was while they were walking out and Ford was asking about the rest of their day that she was realizing there was still some things to do and get done, but she wasn't in a rush of any kind.

"We can shop," she suggested, having already walked by a few stores she thought might have nice dresses she could wear. "Wait, if I'm getting your name engraved on the inside of my ring, should it be Jonathan or Ford? I should probably use my husbands first name every once in a while," she laughed.

Darcy almost looked offended that he thought it was so funny, "You never said which you prefered!" She elbowed him in the ribs, though still having her arm looped through his. She didn't really think much about it. He'd always just been Ford to her because that was all she heard. Casper called him that and Francis didn't say his name when he wasn't all there.

"Would you rather I call you Jonathan? Or Jon or some other variation?" She asked, since who knew, really at this point.

No using the name Jon then. She could stop herself from doing that. That is if she could figure out how to actually call him by his first name. It was already so stuck in her head that it might be difficult to figure out how to remember. He didn't seem to care that much, but Darcy realized it really would be a little bit strange if she never called her own husband by his first name.

"I'll try and call you by your first name," she said, "but you are never, ever allowed to refer to me as wifey. Or the little wifey or little wife or any variation there of. I think I'd kill you." She very well might. Now he would do it to bug her and she knew it.

Darcy laughed at that suggestion, "You sound like some 80-year-old man! Who actually says that?" The laughing kept going and she shook her head, "Yeah, not totally into you refering to me as that, but when the women suddenly come flocking to you because you're very, very taken, feel free to reference your wife as often as you want. Preferably things like how awesome and amazing and beautiful she is."

"Yes, you will lie through your damn teeth," she played along, grinning up at him and sidling up beside him as his arm wound around her shoulders. Darcy was perfectly content with this, especially that she was his better half, "That is a very good way to refer to me."

She slid her arm behind him and tucked her hand into his back pocket, walking with him. This had definitely been a needed vacation. "Do you want to shop with me, or separate?" she asked next.

The superstition thing never really worked for her. She didn't really care and she wasn't wearing white, because then if she went out later, everyone would know something had been going on and she didn't need to parade herself around as a bride. This was for them.

"Practicality wins out with us a lot," she smiled, "Besides, I'm already not following any of the rules. Question though, what color would you prefer to see me in?" She decided since he was the one getting married to her and had to look at her, maybe he should have some say, though she figured he wouldn't care.

"Oh, I love mojitos. We should shop fast, I want one of those," she was not really a drinker or a shopper, but when she was a tourist, she was both. She loved that they could lay out in the sun all day and drink and relax and do not a damn thing. That was never an option for them before. Real life would start happening again once they got back.

"Green will look good next to you, too," she replied. No, no, Irish jokes, but it was true. Green was a good color. "We'll see what I find," she said, pulling back a little, "There's a store back that way I want to check out. Where do you want to meet up?"
